City Description

Vaiden is a town in Carroll County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 840 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greenwood, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. Vaiden is located at 33°19′54″N 89°44′49″W / 33.33167, -89.74694 (33.331591, -89.747002). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 840 people, 326 households, and 202 families residing in the town. The population density was 383.8 people per square mile (148.1/km²). There were 365 housing units at an average density of 166.8/sq mi (64.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 28.45% White, 71.07% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 0.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.83% of the population. There were 326 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.0% were married couples living together, 26.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% were non-families. 34.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of
