City DescriptionTremont is a town in Itawamba County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 390 at the 2000 census. It was the birthplace of country music singer Tammy Wynette.
Tremont is located at 34°13′53″N 88°14′50″W / 34.23139, -88.24722 (34.231492, -88.247352).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.0 square miles (12.8 km²), of which, 4.9 square miles (12.8 km²) of it is land and 0.20% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 390 people, 153 households, and 111 families residing in the town. The population density was 78.9 people per square mile (30.4/km²). There were 178 housing units at an average density of 36.0/sq mi (13.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.15% White, 1.54% African American, 0.26% Asian, 1.03% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.28% of the population.
