Tishomingo is named after Chief Tishomingo of the Chickasaw tribe, who signed the Treaty of Pontotoc in 1832. He died on the infamous 'Trail of Tears' and is buried in Little Rock, Arkansas . His son, Iuka, is the namesake of the county seat of Tishomingo, County, Mississippi.
The town of Tishomingo developed with the building of the Illinois Central Railroad. Andrew Jackson also camped at the site of Tishomingo, on his way to visit the Creek nation.
The jazz standard "Tishomingo Blues" is named after Tishomingo.
The National Register of Historic Places is the United States' list of places worthy of preservation.
Tishomingo is located at 34°38′5″N 88°13′48″W / 34.63472, -88.23 (34.634847, -88.229976).
