City Description

Slate Springs is a village in Calhoun County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 121 at the 2000 census. Slate Springs is located at 33°44′32″N 89°22′22″W / 33.74222, -89.37278 (33.742185, -89.372766). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 121 people, 49 households, and 34 families residing in the village. The population density was 84.0 people per square mile (32.4/km²). There were 63 housing units at an average density of 43.8/sq mi (16.9/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.69% White, 0.83% African American, 0.83% Native American, and 1.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.83% of the population. There were 49 households out of which 24.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
