City Description

Rienzi is a town in Alcorn County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 330 at the 2000 census. Rienzi was named for Nicola Gabrina Rienzi, a Roman tribune. The original town was settled in 1830 and was located one mile west of its current location, near the Nesly Williams Plantation. Rienzi is located at 34°45′53″N 88°31′45″W / 34.76472, -88.52917 (34.764718, -88.529208). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 330 people, 127 households, and 99 families residing in the town. The population density was 332.9 people per square mile (128.7/km²). There were 147 housing units at an average density of 148.3/sq mi (57.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 69.39% White, 28.48% African American, 2.12% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.64% of the population. There were 127 households out of which 26.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% were married couples living together, 16.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.0% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals and
