City Description

Polkville is a village in Smith County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 132 at the 2000 census. Polkville is located at 32°11′47″N 89°41′42″W / 32.19639, -89.695 (32.196288, -89.695080). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 132 people, 51 households, and 39 families residing in the village. The population density was 57.0 people per square mile (22.0/km²). There were 62 housing units at an average density of 26.8/sq mi (10.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 90.91% White and 9.09% African American. There were 51 households out of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% were married couples living together, 3.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 21.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.03. In the village the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45
