Pickens is located at 32°53′12″N 89°58′12″W / 32.88667, -89.97 (32.886672, -89.970092).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²), of which, 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (4.62%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,325 people, 452 households, and 333 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,062.3 people per square mile (409.3/km²). There were 496 housing units at an average density of 397.7/sq mi (153.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 11.92% White, 87.70% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.08% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.28% of the population.
