City Description

New Hebron is a town in Lawrence County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 447 at the 2000 census. New Hebron is located at 31°43′59″N 89°58′55″W / 31.73306, -89.98194 (31.732922, -89.981925). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 447 people, 179 households, and 124 families residing in the town. The population density was 668.1 people per square mile (257.6/km²). There were 205 housing units at an average density of 306.4/sq mi (118.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.96% White, 5.59% African American, and 0.45% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.34% of the population. There were 179 households out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 29.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
