City DescriptionMoorhead is a city in Sunflower County, Mississippi, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 2,573. The town includes the legendary blues crossroads "where the Southern cross the Dog". It claims as a native son musician Johnny Russell. It is Known as a city and not a town.
Moorhead is located at 33°26′57″N 90°30′17″W / 33.44917, -90.50472 (33.449119, -90.504827).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²), of which, 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²) of it is land and 0.77% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,573 people, 688 households, and 520 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,988.9 people per square mile (770.1/km²). There were 720 housing units at an average density of 556.6/sq mi (215.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 20.44% White, 78.97% African American, 0.19% Asian, 0.27% from other races, and 0.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.24% of the population.
