City Description

Isola is a town in Humphreys County, Mississippi. The population was 768 at the 2000 census. Isola is located at 33°15′45″N 90°35′37″W / 33.2625, -90.59361 (33.262467, -90.593708). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.9 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 768 people, 279 households, and 191 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,040.5 people per square mile (400.7/km²). There were 307 housing units at an average density of 415.9/sq mi (160.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 63.67% African American, 32.68% White, 0.52% Native American, 2.73% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.12% of the population. There were 279 households out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% were married couples living together, 25.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.37. In the
