City DescriptionFlora is a town in Madison County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,546 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Flora is located at 32°32′35″N 90°18′43″W / 32.54306, -90.31194 (32.543056, -90.311843).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,546 people, 575 households, and 416 families residing in the town. The population density was 454.2 people per square mile (175.6/km²). There were 606 housing units at an average density of 178.0/sq mi (68.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 57.05% White, 42.04% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.06% from other races, and 0.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.32% of the population.
There were 575 households out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 25.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
