City DescriptionEcru is a town in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 947 at the 2000 census.
Ecru is located at 34°21′20″N 89°1′39″W / 34.35556, -89.0275 (34.355505, -89.027633).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.1 square miles (10.6 km²), of which, 4.1 square miles (10.6 km²) of it is land and 0.24% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 947 people, 374 households, and 259 families residing in the town. The population density was 231.3 people per square mile (89.4/km²). There were 411 housing units at an average density of 100.4/sq mi (38.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 82.37% White, 14.36% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.80% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.64% of the population.
There were 374 households out of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
