City Description

Crawford is a town in Lowndes County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 655 at the 2000 census. Crawford is located at 33°18′22″N 88°37′19″W / 33.30611, -88.62194 (33.306205, -88.621933). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 655 people, 209 households, and 163 families residing in the town. The population density was 466.7 people per square mile (180.6/km²). There were 251 housing units at an average density of 178.9/sq mi (69.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.13% African American, 5.95% White, 0.31% Native American, 0.15% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population. There were 209 households out of which 45.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.6% were married couples living together, 42.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.0% were non-families. 20.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
