Where can I get a cheap airline ticket from Mississippi to Columbia, SC?? Question: I have looked everywhere. I really want to fly for about $250.00 roundtrip.
Answer:
Unfortunately, some of the airlines suggested already do not serve Mississippi and South Carolina. I checked Jackson, Tupelo, and Biloxi, and the cheapest fares I'm seeing right now are from Jackson at $410 roundtrip, and $462 from Tupelo.
Could you go from a larger airport, such as Memphis, New Orleans, Birmingham, or Mobile? For example, March 3rd from Memphis is only $168 roundtrip on USAir, or $188 from New Orleans also on USAir.

Could a river boat have traveled from the Mississippi Riv. to the Columbia Riv back in the 1800's? Question: I saw a movie recently on Tv that had that situation and I don't see where it was possible to travel that far with a river boat. I realize it was just a movie but my curiousity got the best of me.
Answer:
all three answers are right; if you mean a river boat as in a steam powered stern wheeler, no; you still today cant get a boat from the Mississippi system to the Columbia without taking it overland...google "Lewis and Clark" to see if they portaged their boats...I think they had to abandon them across the Continental Divide, built a boat on the Columbia and came back to their eastern boats later, but I'm not 100% sure on that......

How does this state justify abusing girls/boys in juvenile prisons? Why do they do it? Question: The Southern Poverty Law Center sued the state of Mississippi in federal court to stop the "horrendous" physical and sexual abuse of teenage girls at the Columbia Training School, the state's prison for girls.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, also seeks to force the state to provide federally required mental health and rehabilitative treatment to girls confined at Columbia. The suit was filed on behalf of six girls ranging in age from 13 to 17. All suffer from mental illness and all were committed to Columbia for non-violent offenses. Most are victims of past physical or sexual abuse.
"Our state must stop sponsoring child abuse," said Sheila Bedi, director of the SPLC's Mississippi Youth Justice Project, based in Jackson, Miss. "Girls at Columbia Training School not only are being routinely abused, humiliated and injured, they are being denied the most basic services that the law requires." Costs: $5 million per year to house 60 girls.

I'm bi, not a lesbian. If you're going to try to insult me, try to get it right. lol Since I was the first-born of five, abortion was not in the works. Oh, and you didn't answer the question. tsk tsk
If you'd bothered to read the articles provided, the state has a long history of abusing both girls and boys in their juvenile facilities:
"We filed this lawsuit reluctantly after several failed attempts to negotiate with the state. We would much rather see the state's resources go toward caring for our children than defending the indefensible."
The Columbia Training School has a long history of abusing and failing to care for children in its care. A U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation in 2003 revealed shocking conditions at Columbia and Oakley Training School, which houses boys. The abuses included pole-shackling, hog-tying with chains and physical assault by guards. Children with disabilities were routinely denied the mental health, educational and rehabilitative services to which they were entitled.
The state settled a DOJ lawsuit with a consent decree in 2005, but a court-appointed monitor has issued six quarterly reports that document a long list of failures.
Child abuse: Abuse, usually physical, emotional or sexual, directed at a child.
Physical abuse: Where one person inflicts physical violence or pain on another.
Emotional abuse or psychological abuse: coercion, humiliation, intimidation, relational aggression, parental alienation or covert incest: Where one person uses emotional or psychological coercion to compel another to do something they do not want, or is not in their best interests; or when one person manipulates another's emotional or psychological state for their own ends, or commits psychological aggression using ostensibly non-violent methods to inflict mental or emotional violence or pain on another.
Sexual abuse: The improper use of another person for sexual purposes, generally without their consent or under physical or psychological pressure.
Answer:
It's not just this state. This is a nationwide problem. Thank you for putting this out here.

Does one fifth of the world's water realy flow over Niagra Falls..? Question: The Readers Digest states,"One fifth of the world's fresh water plunges over Niagra Falls". I find this very hard to believe, considering the Amazon, Mississippi, Columbia. Nile and thousands of others I don't even know the names of. Where would I find the facts??
Answer:
Today, 20 percent of the world’s fresh surface water is contained in the five great lakes: 5,473 cubic miles (22,812 km³), or 6 quadrillion U.S. gallons (22.81 quadrillion litres) in all. It is enough water to cover the contiguous 48 states to a uniform depth of 9.5 feet (2.9 m). The combined surface area of the lakes is 94,250 square miles (244,100 km²)— larger than the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire combined.
Niagara Falls is located on the Niagara River, between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Since water doesn't flow "uphill" over the falls, then the contents of Lake Ontario cannot be included in the 20 percent figure.
Which means the Reader's Digest statement is incorrect, if only considering the Great Lakes themselves.
However, adding in the additional water flowing into the Lakes from the nearby catchments (via all the rivers that dump into them), then the 20 percent number is ~probably~ correct. Of course, it would take an ENORMOUS length of time for that amount of water to flow over the falls ... the Falls flow rate is 6000000 cubic feet (4.488 x10^7 US Gallons) per minute.
Doing the math: (6 x 10^15) / (4.488 x 10^7) = 133928571. So, in about 134 billion hours (or 15288 years), the 20 percent would cross the lip of the Falls...

Is it about time this came out? Some Jehovah's Witnesses want more than to leave Watchtowers ? Question: Towns where Alleged Jehovah's Witness Child molesters have been reported to silentlambs
Home
Listed by each state
If you would to add a new listing contact silentlambs at info@silentlambs.org
The list below is designed to alert you to a possible danger in your community. Over the course of the last four years silentlambs has been a repository of reports on alleged Jehovah's Witness child molesters. Victims have reported extensively on times, dates and places abuse occurred. We have wrestled with how to alert the public as well as members that may be in congregations where abusers have been reported.
We offer the following suggestions if you as a Jehovah's Witness are in a town/congregation where a report has been made.
Do not allow your children to be alone with anyone in the congregation.
Escort your children to the bathroom during meetings and make sure no else is with them when using facilities.
Never allow your children to be alone in the car with anyone while in field service.
Do not allow any member to study with your child alone.
Avoid camping trips in which children go as a group with one or two adults.
Avoid baby sitters that are adult males.
At a get together watch your children and keep them in sight at all times.
Ask elders directly if they know of any abusers in your congregation, use specific names and note their reaction. They will not tell you directly but indirectly you can often figure out who it is. If one elder is less cooperative talk to another till you find out enough information to know the facts.
Check the local sex offender list in your area, type in the name of every person in your congregation to see if any are listed.
Notice any male member of the congregation that does not have privileges such as microphone or other duties around the congregation, especially if for a long period of time. They can offer talks on the TMS or sermons Service Meeting but are not allowed to conduct meetings. (This is only in case of a confessed child molester)
Note any member of the congregation that has children with sever rebellion or emotional problems.
Do not allow your children to have sleepovers with anyone.
Note members that the elders avoid having around their children.
If you are a member of the public and your community is on the list take the following steps to protect your family.
If Jehovah's Witnesses call at your home never allow them in your home
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call at your home purchase a no trespassing sign and place it near your door. JW's are instructing to only respect "no trespassing" signs any other variation will be ignored.
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call you can also call the local number and ask to be placed on the "do not call" list. They will note your home and check about once a year to make sure you wish to remain on the list.
If you choose to study with Jehovah's Witnesses do so at a neutral location such as the local Kingdom Hall or in a public place.
Never allow your child to be alone with members or their children.
If you choose to attend meetings with Jehovah's Witnesses then we suggest you follow the guidelines above for members.
Remember that most members are not aware of who the molesters are in their congregation according to church policy. They do not know.
If two Jehovah's Witnesses call at your door one could be a child molester. According to church guidelines all confessed child molesters are required to have a partner when going door to door. If two Jehovah's Witnesses appear at your door you might wish to ask if one or both are child molesters for peace of mind. Of course keep in mind if the person is an accused child molester they are allowed to work alone in the door to door work.
We hope this information is helpful and assists with the ultimate goal of silentlambs, protecting children. Check back as the list is updated on a regular basis.

Have you ever read the Smokey the Bear Sutra? Question: this sutra "may be reproduced free forever."
Once in the Jurassic, about 150 million years ago,
the Great Sun Buddha in this corner of the infinite
Void gave a great Discourse to all the assembled elements
and energies: to the standing beings, the alking beings,
the flying beings, and the sitting beings
--even grasses, to the number of thirteen billion, each one born from a
seed, assembled there: a Discourse concerning
Enlightenment on the planet Earth.
"In some future time, there will be a continent called
America. It will have great centers of power called such as
Pyramid Lake, Walden Pond, Mt. Rainier, Big Sur,
Everglades, and so forth; and powerful nerves and channels
such as Columbia River, Mississippi River, and Grand Canyon.
The human race in that era will get into troubles all over
its head, and practically wreck everything in spite of its own strong
intelligentBuddha-nature."
"The Twisting strata of the great mountains and the pulsings
of great volcanoes are my love burning deep in the earth.
My obstinate compassion is schist and basalt and
granite, to be mountains, to bring down the rain. In that
future American Era I shall enter a new form: to cure
the world of loveless knowledge that seeks with blind hunger;
and mindless rage eating food that will not fill it."
And he showed himself in his true form of
SMOKEY THE BEAR.
A handsome smokey-colored brown bear standing on hishind legs, showing that he is aroused and watchful.
Bearing in his right paw the Shovel that digs to thetruth beneath appearances; cuts the root of useless attachments,
and flings damp sand on the fires of greed and war;
His left paw in the Mudra of Comradely Display -- indicating thatall creatures
have the full right to live to their limits
and that deer, rabbits, chipmunks, snakes, dandelions,
and lizard all grow in the realm of the Dharma;
Wearing the blue work overalls symbolic of slaves andlaborers, the countless men oppressed by a civilization
that claims to save but only destroys;
Wearing the broad-brimmed hat of the West, symbolic ofthe forces that guard the Wildereness, which is the Natural
State of the Dharma and the True Path of man on earth;
all true paths lead through mountains --
With a halo of smoke and flame behind, the forest firesof the kali-yuga, fires caused by the stupidity of those
who think things can ge gained and lost whereas in truth all is contained
vast andfree in the Blue Sky and Green Earth
of One Mind;
Round-bellied to show his kind nature and that the greatearth has food enough for everyone who loves her and trusts
her;
Trampling underfoot wasteful freeways and needlesssuburbs; smashing the worms of capitalism and totalitarianism;
Indicating the Task: his followers, becoming free of cars, houses, canned food, universities, and shoes, master the
Three Mysteries of their own Body, Speech, and Mind; and
fearlessly chop down the rotten trees and prune out the sick limbs of this
country
America and then burn the leftover
trash.
Wrathful but Calm, Austere but Comic, Smokey the Bear will
Illuminate those who would help him; but for those who would
hinder or slander him,
HE WILL PUT THEM OUT.
Thus his great Mantra:
Namah samanta vajranam chanda maharoshana
Sphataya hum traka ham mam
"I DEDICATE MYSELF TO THE UNIVERSAL DIAMOND
BE THIS RAGING FURY DESTROYED"
And he will protect those who love woods and rivers,
Gods and animals, hobos and madmen, prisoners and sick
people, musicians, playful women, and hopeful children;
And if anyone is threatened by advertising, air pollution,
or the police, they should chant SMOKEY THE BEAR'S WAR SPELL:
DROWN THEIR BUTTS
CRUSH THEIR BUTTS
DROWN THEIR BUTTS
CRUSH THEIR BUTTS
And SMOKEY THE BEAR will surely appear to put the enemy out
with his vajra-shovel.
Now those who recite this Sutra and then try to put it in
practice will accumulate merit as countless as the sands
of Arizona and Nevada,Will help save the planet Earth from total oil slick,
Will enter the age of harmony of man and nature,
Will win the tender love and caresses of men, women, and
beastsWill always have ripe blackberries to eat and a sunny spot
under a pine tree to sit at,
AND IN THE END WILL WIN HIGHEST PERFECT ENLIGHTENMENT.
thus have we heard.
P.S. I didn't write this, so I can't provide an explanation of the "crush their butts" part. The anonymous writer(s?) did, however, explicitly give permission for the Sutra to be posted anywhere and everywhere.
Answer:
Now, I enjoyed that very much! Thanks for sharing!
The Native American Indians, have passed this on within their oral tradition from teacher to apprentice for thousands of years:
"Watch for the ant-man for he shall set things straight!"
"There shall be a great tree that shall fall from the east to the west, be ever aware, and listen for the sound of the tree when it strikes the soil of the earthly mother where we presently dwell."
"We the Red-man are the custodians of what the White-man calls the North American Continent. We respect her as no one else will, for we first tilled her soil and partook of her fruits, which she gave to us freely!"
May we all be ever Aware,

Answer:
What favors this order? I like starting with some small states to give everyone a chance to compete without needing a lot of money. Not really too picky which states, DC is nice, it is only a city and the candidates do not need to travel far.
Obama might win / Hillary migh get out sooner.
People who don't do well in the first few soon drop out.
The first state Obama didn't win (In your order) is Tennessee.
The first counting up from the bottom he didn't win
(Except for South Dakota & Montana, they haven't gone
yet, they really are last) is New Hampshire.
So flip the list either way, Hillary will have to wait for the bigger states.
Which did not work for Rudy Guliani.

Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee ... WOW!
"In an election as important as this, we must choose the candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship and reforming government, and that's John McCain," Rothschild said in a press release coinciding with the Wednesday announcement from Arlington, Virginia.
"We can't afford a president who lacks experience and judgment and has never crossed party lines to work for meaningful reform," continued Rothschild. "Amid tough economic times and foreign policy concerns, we need someone who is ready to lead. Although I am a Democrat, I recognize that it's more important to put country ahead of party and that's why I support John McCain."

Answer:
I believe it is because there are more people with enough education to see Obama for what he is.
It doesn't take an MBA to realize that voting for whom ever your countries enemies feel is best for you, is a bad thing.

Can You Predict Who Will Win The Up Coming Up Democratic Primaries? Question: Here Are My Predictions:
Maryland: Obama
Virginia: Obama
Wisconsin: Obama
District Of Columbia: Obama
Hawaii: Obama
Ohio:Clinton
Rhode Island: Clinton
Texas: Clinton
Vermont: Clinton
Wyoming: Obama
Mississippi: Clinton
Answer:
Same but my changes would be:
Texas- Obama (Texas is a open primary state).
See: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/primary.shtml
Mississ ippi- Obama (large victory for Obama here).
The Dem Party in Mississippi is heavily African American.
I also think Obama has a very good chance in all of the other Clinton states (not so much Clinton in his states however).
