City DescriptionCollins is a city in Covington County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,761 at the 2005 census. It is the county seat of Covington County.
Collins was the home of Dale Houston, a rock and roll singer whose I'm Leaving It Up To You reached No. 1 in 1963. Collins was also the birthplace of film legend Dana Andrews and Gerald McRaney, TV and film star (Simon and Simon, Major Dad, Deadwood) and home to him and his wife, TV and film star Delta Burke. Collins is also the birthplace and home of NFL stars Steve McNair and Correll Buckhaulter and former NBA star Randolph Keys.
Collins is located at 31°38′32″N 89°33′34″W / 31.64222, -89.55944 (31.642276, -89.559403).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.6 square miles (19.7 km²), of which, 7.6 square miles (19.7 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.39%) is water.
As of the census of 2005, there were 2,761 people, 904 households, and 611 families residing in the city. The population density was 353.4 people per square mile (136.5/km²).
