City DescriptionBay Springs is a city in Jasper County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,097 at the 2000 census. It is located at the intersection of state highways 15 and 18. The area was settled in the 1880s by Joe Blankenship, who built the saw mill that became the town's industrial base. The city was incorporated about twenty years later after the arrival of railroads going through it.
Bay Springs is located at 31°58′36″N 89°16′46″W / 31.97667, -89.27944 (31.976761, -89.279574).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.8 square miles (38.4 km²), of which, 14.8 square miles (38.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.20%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,097 people, 793 households, and 524 families residing in the city. The population density was 142.0 people per square mile (54.8/km²). There were 880 housing units at an average density of 59.6/sq mi (23.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 50.02% White, 49.64% Black]], 0.05% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races.
