City DescriptionWaseca is a city in Waseca County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 8,493 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Waseca County.
U.S. Highway 14 and Minnesota Highway 13 are two of the main arterial routes in the city.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.9 square miles (12.8 km²), of which, 3.8 square miles (9.9 km²) of it is land and 1.1 square miles (2.9 km²) of it (22.42%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,493 people, 3,388 households, and 2,219 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,215.6 people per square mile (856.2/km²). There were 3,563 housing units at an average density of 929.5/sq mi (359.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.24% White, 1.39% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.50% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.10% of the population.
The ancestral makeup of the city is 44.6 % German, 21.3% Norwegian, 13.2% Irish, 5.2% English, 5.1% Swedish, and 4.6% French.
