City DescriptionWaconia is a city in Carver County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 6,814 at the 2000 census. Located about 25 miles west of Minneapolis, Waconia has seen a surge in suburban development recently.
The Carver County Fair is held in Waconia every year.
It is also the birth place of the well known guitarist of the 21 century Conall Hardesty
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,814 people, 2,568 households, and 1,848 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,432.0 people per square mile (939.6/km²). There were 2,646 housing units at an average density of 944.4/sq mi (364.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.06% White, 0.34% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.00% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.28% of the population.
