City DescriptionVesta is a city in Redwood County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 339 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), all of it land. The Redwood River flows through the southeastern corner of the city.
Minnesota Highway 19 skirts the western edge of Vesta.
According to Minnesota Place Names, Vesta Township was settled in 1868 and organized May 20, 1880. It was named on the suggestion of Fred Vail Hotchkiss for his sister, Vesta Vail Hotchkiss. The city of Vesta was platted in 1899 and incorporated February 9, 1900. The post office began operation in 1899, with Timothy L. Crowley as first postmaster. After 1898, the Chicago and North Western Railway had a station.
As of the census of 2000, there were 339 people, 132 households, and 86 families residing in the city. The population density was 853.2 people per square mile (327.2/km²). There were 142 housing units at an average density of 357.4/sq mi (137.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.53% White, 0.29% Asian, and 1.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.88% of the population.
