City DescriptionRushford is a city in Fillmore County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,696 at the 2000 census.
Named for the spot where the nearby Rush Creek could easily be forded, the town was established in 1854, and recently celebrated its sesquicentennial anniversary. Every five years, Rushford holds a city-wide Homecoming celebration, with a standing invitation to all former residents of the city to return and visit. The town also hosts an annual celebration formerly called Frontier Days (now Rushford Days). Rushford Peterson High school's football team has won State in football 3 times in the last 5 years.
Rushford is a stop on the Root River State Trail, a Rails to Trails project linking several small towns along 42 miles of former railroad grade. The historic Rushford Depot (pictured to the right) is a landmark along this trail, with a museum inside the old depot and other historic buildings on the grounds.
Though bluffs surround the town (Rushford is in the heart of southeastern Minnesota's Bluff Country), the most impressive is Magelssen's Bluff, a 440-foot dominant presence over the town, complete with the town name in large white letters anchored on the side of the hill ...
