City DescriptionPorter is a city in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 190 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.8 km²), of which, 2.2 square miles (5.8 km²) of it is land and 0.45% is water. The North Branch of the Yellow Medicine River flows through the city.
As of the census of 2000, there were 190 people, 88 households, and 54 families residing in the city. The population density was 85.2 people per square mile (32.9/km²). There were 98 housing units at an average density of 44.0/sq mi (17.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.37% White, 1.05% African American and 1.58% Native American.
There were 88 households out of which 28.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% were married couples living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.6% were non-families. 37.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.74.
