City Description

Mounds View is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 12,738 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. U.S. Route 10, County Highway 10, and Interstate Highway 35W are three of the main arterial routes in the city. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 square miles (10.7 km²), of which, 4.1 square miles (10.6 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.48%) is water. Rice Creek flows through the southeastern part of the city. The city of Mounds View was located in the former Mounds View Township, which included parts of present-day Shoreview, Arden Hills, and Spring Lake Park. In 1958, 100 years after Minnesota's ascension to statehood, the village of Mounds View was incorporated. Post World War II growth was partially fueled by the proximity of the Twin Cities Arsenal. Today, Mounds View is primarily known for the Mermaid Bowling Alley, Wynnsong Movie Theater, large, wooded residential lots, and the excellence of the Mounds View School District (which includes nearby New Brighton, Shoreview, Arden Hills, and North Oaks). As of the census of 2000, there were 12,738
