City DescriptionIronton is a city in Crow Wing County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 498 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Brainerd Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Ironton is located on the Cuyuna iron range, from which its name is derived. It is immediately adjacent to its twin city of Crosby, Minnesota.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.1 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²) of it (24.37%) is water. Minnesota State Highway 210 serves as a main route in the community.
As of the census of 2000, there were 498 people, 231 households, and 130 families residing in the city. The population density was 333.2 people per square mile (129.0/km²). There were 263 housing units at an average density of 176.0/sq mi (68.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.40% White, 0.40% Native American, and 0.20% from two or more races. 46.8% were of American, 9.5% German, 9.5% Swedish, 8.6% Norwegian and 5.9% Irish ancestry according to Census 2000.
