U.S. Route 12 and Minnesota State Highway 4 are two of the main arterial routes in the community.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.7 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (7.25%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 608 people, 257 households, and 160 families residing in the city. The population density was 951.8 people per square mile (366.8/km²). There were 271 housing units at an average density of 424.2/sq mi (163.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.86% White, 0.33% Asian, 0.33% from other races, and 1.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.96% of the population.
There were 257 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% were non-families. 31.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
