According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²), of which, 2.2 square miles (5.6 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.91%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 720 people, 295 households, and 210 families residing in the city. The population density was 330.4 people per square mile (127.5/km²). There were 312 housing units at an average density of 143.2/sq mi (55.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.89% White, 0.14% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.69% of the population.
There were 295 households out of which 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
