City DescriptionElgin is a city in Wabasha County, Minnesota, United States on Minnesota State Highway 42. The population was 826 at the 2000 census. Its annual festival is Elgin Cheese Days.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.7 km²), all of it land.
Minnesota State Highway 42 and County Highway 2 are two of the main routes in the community. Elgin is a very nive town to live in it is beautiful with a stream running thought it and many subdivisions to enjoy.
As of the census of 2000, there were 826 people, 321 households, and 215 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,262.8 people per square mile (490.6/km²). There were 324 housing units at an average density of 495.3/sq mi (192.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.91% White, 0.12% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 0.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.
