It is located in the Red River Valley region on the western banks of the Red River of the North, directly across from the larger city of Grand Forks, North Dakota. East Grand Forks, along with its twin city of Grand Forks, North Dakota, forms the center of the Grand Forks, ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is often called Greater Grand Forks or The Grand Cities.
The famous Whitey's Cafe and Wonderbar is a local institution.
