City DescriptionBrandon is a city in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 450 at the 2000 census.
The history of Brandon is little known. Major events included moving the town closer to the rail road tracks from its former location between lakes Little Chippewa and Devils. Ole Brandon, an immigrant of Norwegian descent, is known to have been one of the original settlers. The town was formally organized in 1881.
Many families are known to have had great influence on the town. The Julseth family, as well as the Nelson family owned large farm operations and were vital in the settling and development of early Brandon.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), of which, 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) of it is land and 2.44% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 450 people, 187 households, and 123 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,120.2 people per square mile (434.4/km²). There were 199 housing units at an average density of 495.4/sq mi (192.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.56% White, 0.22% Asian, and 0.22% from two or more races.
