City Description

Breckenridge is a village in Gratiot County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,339 at the 2000 census. The village is located in Wheeler Township. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.7 km²), all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,339 people, 543 households, and 360 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,268.4 per square mile (487.7/km²). There were 580 housing units at an average density of 549.4/sq mi (211.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.15% White, 0.15% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 3.21% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.75% of the population. There were 543 households out of which 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.05. In the village the
