City Description

Boyne Falls is a village in Charlevoix County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 370 at the 2000 census. The village is located in Boyne Valley Township on the Boyne River, near the junction of the north and south branches. US 131 connects the city with US 31 at Petoskey, about 14 miles to the north and M-32 about 7 miles to the south (which connects with I-75 at Gaylord, 13 miles to the east). Boyne City is about 8 miles to the northwest on M-75. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.4 km²) of it is land and 1.79% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 370 people, 158 households, and 97 families residing in the village. The population density was 675.9 per square mile (259.7/km²). There were 190 housing units at an average density of 347.1/sq mi (133.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.84% White, 1.35% Native American, 0.27% Asian, and 0.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.27% of the population. There were 158 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% were married couples
