    Berkley is a city in Oakland County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a suburb of Detroit. As of the 2000 census, the total population was 15,531. Berkley's downtown area stretches along 12 Mile Road between Greenfield Road and Coolidge Highway, and along Coolidge Highway between 12 Mile Road and 11 Mile Road. Berkley's town offices and public safety headquarters are located on 12 Mile Road just east of Coolidge Highway. The Berkley Parks and Recreation department is located on Catalpa Drive, just east of Anderson Middle School. This includes the tennis courts, ice arena, baseball diamonds, and a park. Since Berkley's eastern border is formed by Woodward Avenue, the city is an active participant in the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, a popular classic car showcase in the Metro Detroit area. There are many churches, of a variety of denominations, in Berkley. The largest is the Roman Catholic church of Our Lady of La Salette and the novitiate for the Chicago and Detroit provinces of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), Loyola House, is located in Berkley as well.     I have LOTS of Extracurriculars I have an unweighted GPA of 3.67, weighted 4.2 with a class rank in the top 25% I have taken almost all honors courses, AP US History, AP Calculus AB, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, and AP Psychology. I received SAT scores of- Math: 710, Writing skills:670, and Critical reading:640 I would like to go for ENgineering. SHould I retake my SATs to try for 700 on all sections, take the ACTs or take SAT II subject tests.

    Wow, your SATs are great, but you should take it one more time just so you can use the better score. You MIGHT be a shoe in if it wasn't for your GPA or your class ranking. Most kids who are accepted to those schools are top 10% of their classes and have an above 3.8 GPA. But other wise you're good. They may over look that if you list some oustanding things that you've done on your application.

    I saw this owl in my backyard last night?

    Last night I saw this little grey owl fly in and perch on my telephone wire. It was only about 5-6 inches high when perched. I live in Berkley Michigan and have never seen anything like this around the house. Does anyone have any information about what kind it might have been? Should i worry about it trying to eat my 4 pound yorkie?

    it is definately a grey phase screech owl, they are very cool. and no, there is NO way it can eat your 4 lb yorkie, but there are larger day-hunting birds of prey that would eat a smal dog as a snack. don't leave him/her outside unsupervised

I've won 1st place math competition in washington state, play varsity sports, a lot of club involvements, volunteers, so my extracurricular activity is secure to say now.     Your extra currics are ok. They're not as impressive as you might think. For top out of state schools like UCLA, USC, Berkeley, and Michigan, you're going to need about a 2200+ for a decent shot. That's cuz your GPA is on the low side for those schools. 2300+ to feel better. Even then it's no sure thing. Cornell places an even higher emphasis on extra currics, so I really don't feel comfortable you'd get in at all based on what you have (the low GPA and the average extra currics other than the math comp thing).

    The Ivies or a Good Public School?

    Ok my parents have both attended Ivy schools but th ething is even though I have a very high GPA and great stats etc.. I actually dont want to go to any of the Ivies. I know it sounds crazy but I just think a great, diverse, liberal public school like say UC-Berkley would suit me better. Anyways are the Ivies that much different to say a prestigous public school like Berkley or Michigan (Ann Arbor)?

    It totally depends on the field of study you want to pursue. For example, Berkeley's civil engineering program is recognized across the board as being one of the best in the world. In comparison, no civil engineering program from any of the ivy league schools even comes close to Berkeley's reputation. Whatever your field of study, this is what I would recommend: pick some of the public and private schools that you think might have a good program in what you want to do and go to their websites. Look at the professors' webpages on the department website of your field of interest and note where they got their college degrees from. After doing this for several schools, you may begin to see a pattern emerge. You may notice that several of the professors got their degrees from Wisconsin or Nebraska or wherever. This means that those schools probably have the most prestigious programs in your field of interest. Also, ask around which schools have the best programs. Call some of the local professionals in your career of interest, and ask them for advice on where to got to school and how to best prepare yourself to be an attractive employee out of college. You may find that by doing so, you not only get some great advice, but you might also land yourself an internship or a future full-time job!

    I plan on going to the Univeristy of West Georgia in the fall because I can't afford to go to a private school; if I keep all A's for the first two years will prestigious schools like Berkley, UNC-Chapel HIll, Michigan-Ann Arbor, etc accept me... or do they only accept transfer students from other prestigous schools. I guess to sum it all up, does the school you go to greatly effect your chances of getting accepted as a transfer student to a prestigous school.

    Prestigious schools sometimes look more at grades than where you went in the past. However, if they have a small amount of spots, or if you'd require a huge financial aid package, you would probably not get in. Or, if it's a huge leap, the chances of getting in are pretty bad (for example, an Ivy League school would probably not accept you as a TRANSFER student if your previous school was a community college and you didn't finish the 2 years-- but if you got a degree there and wanted to get your bachelor's elsewhere, you could probably get in if your GPA and SAT were high). Look at the schools' websites for transfer applicants before deciding to go anywhere aside from where you currently are.

    I recently got pulled over for running a red light. I need to take the points off my record . How can I?

    I ran a red light, not to spite the police, but in accident (this happened in Berkley, Michigan). I was given a ticket for the violation. Though no points were specified on the tickets (they rarely are), I am positive they will be put on the record. I am prepared to to pay the ticket, however I was wondering how I may prevent the points going on my record because it will severely increase my car insurance.     If they put points on your license, they will stay on for around 3 years. If you think you have a case, you can try to fight it in court...if you are acquitted, no points, but if you are convicted, you will pay your fine PLUS court costs PLUS attorneys fees, and STILL have points on your license. If you take a defensive driving course, your insurance company may choose not to raise your rates (especially if you are a first time offender). You should call them and ask. But the bottom line is this: You broke the law and drove recklessly. The police put a notice of this on your license, and your insurance will go up because you have proven yourself to be a higher risk driver. What part of this system is unjust?

    I think you have a shot at all of them. But schools like that are always iffy. No one is a shoe in at any of them. Best to have a few backup choices.     I was caught by the police in Atlanta Georgia as a seventeen year old male with about a gram of marijuanana. I was charged with a misdemeanor posession of under an ounce. I have a lawyer and he says it will not be until January or February that I am able to have it expunged. Being a senior in high school I am currently applying to colleges and on every application it says have you ever been arrested in some sort of way. My lawyer told me that I must legally put yes on the application. I have a 3.7 GPA and scored a 2210 on the SAT as well as being involved in many activities at my school. I am applying to somewhat selective schools such as UC Berkley, University of Michigan, University of Maryland, Universty of Florida and others. Will these schools automatically reject me upon seeing I was arrested? Does this mean a lot to schools? Does my GPA and SAT score outweigh the arrest?

    They definitely will not immediately dismiss your application simply because of a misdemeanor. You haven't been to court yet you said? So there's still even the possibility of having a deferred sentence where upon completion of a certain time period without anymore arrests it will be wiped from your record. Your GPA and exceptional SAT scores will undoubtedly outshine the small smudge on your application from a marijuana offense.
