It is the principal city of the Battle Creek, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Calhoun county. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 53,364.
Battle Creek, known as the "Cereal City", is the world headquarters of Kellogg Company, founded by Will Keith Kellogg in 1906, whose brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, invented cold breakfast cereal as an alternative to the traditional meat-based breakfast. It is also the home of Post Cereals, which was part of General Foods Corporation at one time, and is now part of Kraft Foods.
Battle Creek was featured in the T.C. Boyle novel The Road to Wellville and the movie of the same name.

Anything fun to do near Battle Creek or Kalamazoo Michigan?

We are traveling to the battle creek / Kalamazoo area in Michigan this May. We have a 6 yr old and a 9 yr old that are going as well. What can we do as a family to have some fun. We are staying in a cabin for a weekend in Fort Custer State Park.

I grew up in Battle Creek (Now I live in Atlanta). The coolest thing is probably Cereal City, USA. It's a fakey tour of a cereal plant but pretty entertaining. For a 6 year old and a 9 year old its pretty perfect, though. Look for Full Blast, which is like a kids entertainment gym/complex. They have a waterpark (its small). Also check out Leila Arboretum, which is very picturesque for a picnic or just a curvy drive.
And do my favorite thing: Sniff the air each morning and evening and try to guess which kind of cereal is being baked. You can smell it through the entire city. My favorites were: froot loops and blueberry morning.

I can tell you how to get the info, but you can't say you're trying to find "Jamie" or you won't get it.
Call the Battle Creek Enquirer at 800-333-4139 and ask to be connected with someone who can help you find an archived story from 1991. When you get that person on the phone, explain that you're researching an old murder story and need some background information. Could they please pull up the clipping file on the murder of a young woman who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 1991. Tell her the only clue you have to her identity is that she left behind a child named Jamie. Give them a day or two to pull the records and you'll have to pay for them to fax or mail copies to you (it is a lot of work to do that much research with so little info).
Once you get the info on her murder, you'll have Jamie's last name. Then you can go to http://www.intelius.com and start researching to find him/her.
