Does the college where you get your degree really matter? Question: I live in Michigan. My father believes I could go to a "good" school. I am really only looking at Oakland U and Baker College of Port Huron. He has previously made remarks about Baker to the effect of it being "not as good." My question is, if I get a degree from Baker as opposed to a degree from say, Albion, will I really get less consideration during job hunts? Is a degree a degree as I'm hoping?
Answer:
In some ways, a college degree is a gamble--a bet that the time and money you invest will more than pay you back with the additional money you earn. you might consider: what job field are you expecting to enter? (Some employers in some fields are more particular than others--e.g., lawyers are nortorious for being snobbish) Are you expecting to living in Port Huron? Some schools have local or regional appeal to portential employers, others are recognized nationwide. What kind of grades would you get--would you be in the top 10 percent? And, let's be practical--do you already know people in the field you want to work in who might be willing to give you that first job opportunity? Ask both schools--what percent of their grads are employed 6 months after graducation, and what is their median income?

What schools should i try and transfer to? Question: i live in michigan, so im looking for a school in the state. I didnt do so good in highschool got a 2.7 gpa. SO i went to a community college and gota 4.0 gpa first semseter, and will most likely have a 3.4 or higher this semester. SO i will be looking at a 3.7 gpa after a year at a community college. I am also going into law. What schools should i apply for transfer to?
already applied to albion
Answer:
With your college grades, you have a shot at University of Michigan. You should apply there. If you get in -- you should go. It is one of the best public universities in the country.
If not there, Michigan State should be your second choice. You should pray that you don't have to go to your third choice -- because the quality drops off quickly.

HAIRLESS Rats? Question: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND A HAIRLESS RAT? PREFERABLY CLOSE TO ALBION MICHIGAN...
ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.......
RACHEL
Just so you know pinkies are not hairless rats--they are babies that have not gotten their fur yet...
Answer:
Baby rats (pups, also affectionately known as pinkies, erasers, rittens, kittens) are born hairless. Their coat starts coming in around 5 to 7 days old. A hairless baby may or may not start out with a coat and go hairless later, around 6 to 8 weeks of age.
Hairless rats are not genetically inferior, or defective, when they are bred by dedicated breeders. Zoos breed their rats en mass for animal food and this type of indiscriminate breeding is what causes the defects in the hairless rat.
If you are looking for good-quality pets, then may I suggest that you go to The Ratster http://www.ratster.com The breeders listed here breed for quality pets while endeavering to weed out the health concerns of the hairless rat.
http://www.rmca.org/Articles/truehairless.htm
http://www.skycl yde.com/HairlessCare.html?1054491765137
I dug around on the Ratster and came up with this page of breeders for you.
http://www.ratster.com/bodycoat.html#nohair
This is a very old website that hasn't been updated in ages, a lot of broken links, but there might be some breeders here who can guide you to those hairless (nikked) rats
http://www.altpet.net/rodents/MI.shtml
The breeders I can recommend from this list are:
Cove Rattery
Black Rose Rattery
Blue Velvet Rattery
Silver Fuzz Rattery
I even typed "hairless rats in Michigan" in my browser and came up with the following links

You might even find a hairless rat that needs to be rehomed?
I have had 5 hairless rats (Eve, Galen, Halen, Oliver, and Punk) from pet stores and all but Oli were plagued with health/skin issues. Oliver died of good ol' old age.

About Colleges in Michigan...? Question: I'm a sophomore in highschool with a steady 3.6-3.8 GPA. I'm a year ahead in math and in spanish (which I've taken three years of already), and am in Honors Biology. In my junior and senior years, I intend on taking other honors and advanced classes, including debate, anthropology, Forensics, and Advanced Composition. I plan on going into forensics, specifically working with DNA in relation to crime. To be honest, I'm dead-set on it.
Money's beyond tight for us, and I have two colleges in mind (Albion and Ferris), but both are extremely expensive, and I'm afraid my GPA isn't enough to get enough of a scholarship.
What I'm asking, is should I get everything I can manage at Schoolcraft, and then try to transfer to one of these two schools after to save some money? Or would this be too much of a hassle and/or look bad, since I was going to such a cheap college for a while? Are there some other good colleges for forensics in MI that aren't so expensive?
Answer:
I went to Ferris many yrs ago. (now live in L.A.) It's an xclnt school however I'm impressed that they're big in forensics. Hillsdale is also an xclnt school though not sure if they're forensic savvy. Schoolcraft is good - go there, work ur ass off at night and saaaaaaaaaave ur $$$. Once u leave Schoolcraft, go to the best school u can afford. Once u graduate from Ferris / Albion u'll be able to work anywhere in the country - so all ur $$ will come back to u 10-fold!!!
hope this helps -

Which college should I choose? Question: I'm having a hard time choosing a college. I have applied and goten accepted at all the places I applied.
The ones I really like are Hope College, Albion College, Michigan State and University of Tampa.
I am a small town gal, so I like the environment of Hope and Albion. I also like to be involved in just about everything and I am not a big partier--so that is kind of an issue for me. I want to go somewhere I know I can feel safe and where I can get a good education. I am also majoring in international relations so I want to be able to travel.
Any suggestions on which one to choose?
Answer:
If you don't want to party, and want to be safe, I would avoid Tampa. Consider financial issues, distance from home, how accredited the program of your major is. Have you toured the campuses? If not, do so and you will know which one feels right. Good luck!

What type of college is best for pre-med: a small liberal arts school or a big university? Question: To achieve the highest possible GPA and receive the best chances to receive admission to med-school, what type of school is best?
I'm considering some such as:
University of Michigan
Davidson College
Carleton College
USC
Stanford
Albion College
Creighton University
Washington University in St. Louis
any preference?
and would i be better off with a high GPA at an easier school or a lower one at a school with a great rep (like stanford)?
liberal arts colleges are notorious for grade deflation. however, i love the one on one attention, and there is typically more in depth research and opportunities. but at the same time, i read that med-schools take your gpa as it is, and that is that.
Answer:
Pre med is pre med - no difference where you study it. It boils down to what kind of school you like. I like small schools where professors give you individual attention - but that is me.
I don't know what you mean by easier school. Harvard for example is well known to practise grade inflation - some ridiculously high percentage of students get honours from there. Yet its courses are quite rigorous. Harvey Mudd for example also has just as rigours and challenging a program but only 4 students its its entire history have gotten straight honours. It has nothing to do with if the school is easy or hard - it has to do with the policy of the schools as far as marking and extra credit goes. However those schools with grade inflation like Harvard are well known and will be taken into account by medical school admissions staff.
Check out:
http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&id=NdQW87vX7rgC
http:/ /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_inflation
Of those that you mention I would go to Carleton. However also consider Harvey Mudd, Kenyon and the New College Florida
