City DescriptionBrookline is a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States, which borders on the cities of Boston and Newton. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town was 57,107.
Brookline was known as the hamlet of Muddy River (a river which today makes up part of the Brookline-Boston border) and was considered a part of Boston until the Town of Brookline was independently incorporated in 1705. Its name is derived from the brooks that created the town lines with the former towns of Brighton and Roxbury, which are both now parts of Boston.
Brookline is located at approximately 42°19′50″N, 71°8′1″W (42.330664, -71.13364).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.8 square miles (17.7 km²), of which, 6.8 square miles (17.6 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.44%) is water.
Brookline borders Newton (part of Middlesex County) to the west and Boston (part of Suffolk County) to the east, north, south, northwest, and southwest; it is therefore non-contiguous with any other part of Norfolk County. Brookline became an exclave in 1873 when the neighboring town of West Roxbury was annexed by Boston (and left Norfolk County to join Suffolk ... Read MoreCity Contained By:- Norfolk County

Questions Possibly Related to Brookline, MassachusettsProvided By Y! Answers
Why can't I park overnight in Brookline, Massachusetts?
Answer:
For several reasons. First of all, Brookline does not have the best traffic situation already. Preventing overnight parking decreases the number of cars people own. Fewer cars means better traffic. Just compare Brookline to Allston/Brighton if you want to see the difference, especially Harvard Ave. north and south of Comm Ave. Also, Brookline has a lot of students renting. These students are less likely to bring a car if they can't park it, or have to pay $150 per month for parking, or walk a few miles to park it. Fewer students with cars means fewer drunk studnets driving cars. Finally, Brookline is quiet at night, compared to nearby Boston neighborhoods. This is because overnight parties do not attract hordes of students in cars, becuase the cars can't be parked at the party overnight.
It's a good law. As a permanent resident of Brookline, I support it.
