Is there any realistic chance to obtain a concealed carry permit in Maryland? Question: I've read the law, but it seems like it is designed to basically weed out just about everybody who doesn't have political connections.
From anyone who has experience in Maryland, is this a fair assessment or am I way off base?
Thanks.
Answer:
Unfortunately, the Secretary of the Maryland State Police is in charge of CCW permits in the state of Maryland and has been instructed to deny any permit requests that do not involve a clear, present and continued threat of violence; and once the threat has passed, they revoke the permit. They also give permits to business owners that allow them to carry ONLY inside the business or from the business to the bank for those people that do money drops. That permit is ONLY valid when they are in possession of a bank money bag.
However, there are wheels under way to try and change that. There are two gun groups that have the backing of the NRA that are trying to introduce legislation to take the power to issue CCWs away from the MSP and make MD a "Shall Issue" State. Right now everything is hinging on how the Supreme Court rules on the constitutionality of the DC Gun Ban.

I want to know if i have a chance to get into University of Maryland-College Park? Question: I have little doubt but i would like some opinions on this matter. I just started 12th grade, i have a G.P.A of 3.54 currently. I have a pretty low SAT score of 1300 on the new version out of 2400. Hopefully i can get that up. All of my classes were honors except my freshmen year. Including taking Geometry, Algebra 2, and trig in one year. Right now i am taking A.P. literature/English, A.P. Calculas, and A.P. Biology. I am in the National Honor Society, interact club, in the computer video club. Also volunteered at my school library, consisently have made honor roll. I have over 150 hours of community service currently but should have at least 400-500 before the school year ends. I participated in the chemathon in 11th grade, which is a competition in which you have a group of 6 representing your school in University of Maryland. Our group were the first to participate from our school. I also have an interview for my father's hospital which will give me experience and give me hours.
Answer:
I think you have a great chance at getting in, although that SAT score is not as good. I would try getting it up or taking the ACT. Definitely try to take it within the next couple of months -- say, before December. But don't worry too much... your GPA and extracurriculars look great! Just do something about your standardized test scores. Good luck!

There's a chance I may be moving from New Jersey to Maryland and I'm concerned about driving requirements Question: Over the summer we may have to move from Jersey to Maryland. I am going to be 16 the end of June, and we will be moving after my 16th Birthday. I know in Jersey you can get your permit after completing drivers ed (which I have done already) and doing your 6-hours after you turn 16, but I don't know about Maryland. Is there a separate driver's ed course I'd have to take? The course I took had no behind the wheel training, just classroom instruction and I took and passed the written test. Would I have to take another test and pretty much throw out the Drivers Ed I took here, or would I be able to transfer that over to Maryland or what?
Answer:
You will be a teen driver in Maryland. Save up any proof of Driver Education you get in NJ, but be prepared to face a nightmare in Maryland...

What are my chanced of getting into the University of Maryland's PhD in art history program? Question: I am currently a student that is about to receive a second bachelor's degee. Ist- BA- Spanish 2nd- BFA Drawing and Painting.
My GPA for my 1st degree was not great-2.5 ( I was young)
My GPA for my second degree is much better 3.9.
I plan on obtaining my MFA before I go for my PhD, but I want to get my MFA in London, which would take a year. My question is- Is it at all a possibility that I may get accepted into the art history Phd program? I know my GPA from my 1st degree is nothing to write home about, but I am a more serious student now. I know I can get great letters of recommendation and I am also involved in a couple of student groups. My family is planning to move to Maryland after our year in London and I just wanted to know if I at least have some chance of getting in before we all make a move.
Answer:
In my opinion, you need not worry too much at all about your first bachelor's degree GPA. However, I believe that you will have a difficult time gaining admission into an art history Ph.D. program because your degree is in studio arts as opposed to art history. Maryland has a very good program, and the competition will be very stiff. The vast majority of applicants will hold bachelor's degrees in art history.
Have you taken many art history courses? If you have, you will definitely need to highlight this on your application. Letters of reocmmendation from art historians (not studio professors) will be absolutely necessary in your case.
I would be sure to attain an extremely high GRE score as well.
Best wishes to you.

Chance of getting into Maryland University? Question: This is a weird question, but I'll ask anyway. I've been taking a lot of classes over at my community college and raised my GPA from under a 1.0 to over a 2.0. I would continue, but since I've attempted so many credits, the school will not allow me to continue to use Finacial Aid, even loans. So, I'd like to transfer to UofM, College Park and finally finish there using student loans. I messed up alot in the beginning of my college career and I'm paying for it now, but I'm worried that my terrible past will come back to haunt me yet again when I apply and I'll be denied.
So what are my chances: Basically, I was put on academic probation once and dismissal twice. Since I was only able to take two classes each semester after dismissal, I would usually pass one and fail the other. Since I had to pass 50% of my classes, I would basically be dismissed again. So I just took one class per semester untill my GPA finally got me out of my academic probation.
A friend of mine suggested that I just apply to ITT, DeVry or another school that specializes in working adults, since working full time and attending school is basically my problem. But I am not interested in anything they offer, since I am a Biology Major. Plus, I'd rather have the prestige of graduating from College Park. However, if everything else fails, I just may have to attend one of those schools.
Thanks for reading and answering!
Answer:
If you went to a Community College in the State of Maryland and have over a 2.0 GPA, the university of Maryland can not deny you admittance into the school.
While you may be admitted, it doesnt mean you'll get the major you want. You wont be able to get into the business or engineering schools. But you're going into BIO, so you should be ok.
Even if you do get in, BIO @ UMD is a killer. (Hell all the classes the technical/science classes i've taken here are killer).
Good luck!

What are my chances with the University of Maryland College Park? Question: My Gpa is about 3.6-3.8 range. My SAT scores are verbal:620 math:580 writing:590. I am a minority student coming from the caribbean. I have around thirty extra curriculars for the duration of my entire high school career.
Oh and also I took 2 out of the three AP classes my school has to offer.
Answer:
I think you have a really good chance to get in. I was accepted coming out of high school and your numbers are comparable to mine. I am also a minority as well. Focus on making a good personal statement and you will be fine. Applying early can be helpful as well. I live in Maryland and I know a lot of people at College Park with credentials not nearly as good as yours....good luck!!

Do we have higher chance for immigration matters especially that my husband is part of the US NAVY? Question: I'm here in California & he's in Maryland right now because he is based there now as military corpsman (military nurse). He's the US citizen. We're planning to file for adjustment of status (of my status). Is there a greater chance for such application? I'm a nurse here in California but my work permit was expired already. What are the possible questions for the USCIS interview then? How will we establish our marriage if he's based in Maryland & I'm here in California?
Answer:
Being in the Navy means nothing. If your visa expired you are an illegal alien.

My asthma is cold sensitive. I think of relocating from California to Maryland. Can it be controlled there? Question: I lived for 5 years in Michigan and my astma went out of control
in the winter times. Whenever I got a cold, even 2 weeks of medical leave were not enough and I had asthmatic bronchitists all winters despite a very heavy use of steriod inhailer (aerobid). However I had no problems in the summer there. I moved to Californiya 8 years ago and my astma is under full control with a small flovent dose. Now I am offered a very good job in Maryland. Would I have a chance to adjust there? May be someone had this experience? Thank you.
Answer:
READ MY LIPS, DO NOT MOVE WHERE YOUR HEALTH IS GOING TO BE BAD, HOW ARE YOU GONG TO WORK AND HAVE A HEALTHY JOB? THE MONEY IS NOT WORTH IT, IF YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT MONEY ON HEALTH CARE, AND THEN NOT FEEL GOOD. STAY IN CALIFORNIA, IF YOU FEEL BEST HERE, THEN STAY. ONCE YOU LEAVE, IT IS HARD TO GET BACK IN, DUE TO THE COSTS OF GETTING BACK HERE. MARYLAND, THAT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE IT IS EVEN CLOSE TO CALIFORNIA. I HAVE LEFT CALIFORNIA ONCE, AND USED TO LIVE IN TEXAS WHERE I HAD REALLY BAD ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA. WHEN I MOVED TO CALIFORNIA, IT WENT AWAY. I WOULD NOT GO BACK FOR ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD, AND YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE.

Is there any team a 14-year old can play football for the first time in the state of Maryland? Question: I'm 14 and I really want to play football but I know I'm way too small at 5' 3'', 117 lbs. Is there any place in Maryland that I could play this sport? I love it so much but I don't think I'll ever get a chance to play because of my size and age.
Answer:
There's always a place to play. Ask around and see if there are any leagues. If not, you can always just get a group of friends together and play. Don't give up because of your height, you never know, you could still be due for another growth spurt :)
Best of luck man.

Does anybody think i have a good chance at getting in the honors program at UMBC? Question: I really want to go to University of Maryland College Park but i have to have a backup and i was wondering if i have a chance of getting in the honrors program at UMBC. am a african american. I have a g.p.a of 3.50 currently and i am in my senior year. My sat's are pretty low, 1300/2400 and i am planning to take it again before applying. I have taken all honor classes from 10th grade on. I have more math credits then they reccomended because i was in a special math program and i had to do geometry/algebra 2/trig in one year. I am currently taking 3 A.P. classes, A.P. biology, A.P. English/lit, A.P. calculus and because i don't have space on my schedule, i am taking A.P psychology on the side. I am involved in the Interact/Rotary club in which i am vice president, in the National Honor Society, and i participated in the chemathon, a chemistry competiton in University of Maryland in which me and 5 others were the first to represent our high school in this competition. I have currently over 150 hours of community service but that should go up to 400-500 before i apply. I am also in the science fair club, where me and my partner will compete locally and hopefully beyond even that. I am volunteering for the public library and i have already volunteered for the school library. I am also volunteering at the Washington Hospital Center in the department of Radiology. I should get major hours and have a great experience. I have also attended the student leadership program in which they give us necessary skills on how to be a great leader and we also recieve a certificate. I forgot, i also was a part of the Computer video club, but our supervisor left so it is no more. I plan on having many reccommendations from teachers and the hospital. Hopefully i would have a great Essay, i am working on it with my A.P. English/lit teacher and if she can't help me then no one can(just kidding). I want anyone's honest opinion on if i have a good shot, and i heard that i could get into the honor program if i get my SAT's up. Really i just want to know if i can just get in and then you can tell me if i have a shot at the honor program. Thank you to anyone who answered
Answer:
have a TRUST in yourself. none of what we say will matters. this is not something you can do in two days or so. it takes years to plan. and this is your goal and you are going for it and if you want it really really bad, that's when it will happen. when you have a goal, all things you did and planned will fallen into place.
wish you luck.
