Big, fat leather couches, fireplaces roaring, drinks pouring, food with flair right on the waterfront watching the water taxis and other large watercraft go by. Hor d'oeuvres for us consisted of brie served in puff pastry astride a balsamic glaze. I had the Dublin Lawyer - lobster served in the shell with cream and herbs, seated atop zucchini seated atop white beans.

Reminded of venues in Greenwich Village in NYC, I sat until very late at my first evening at "Blue" at 650 Congress Street, Portland, ME. Go! Go back. Some of the best live music to be heard in Portland, ME can be found at Port City BLUE downtown. An old guard jazz aficionado, I treasure venues that showcase talent and Port City BLUE has all the elements. Menu-wise the owners have picked a number of items perennially favored - some light pasta dishes - good meatballs (I tried to slip one in and asked the owner for his secret recipe... but he was stone cold sober... I got nowhere)... antipasto, cheeses. The wine list is a nice assortment - same for the beers/lagers - and beverages include specialty sodas. Good bread. All in all - all you really need for an evening glued to your chair - listening to fabulous music. Dunno what the one negative reviewer here was speaking about - but they cannot be a music person such as I am. Support the arts. Apparently the owners have that figured out. I loved the place and I've seen lots - including venues in London such as Ronnie Scott's and nearly staying the night in venues in the Village in NY. BLUE is wonderful. Kudos to the owners. They are caring with the musicians and I thank them for that.

What a wonderful pub where everybody knows your name...of course they will after a couple of visits. Just your friendly neighborhood bar where after a visit or two you will feel like one of the regulars. Everyone here is so friendly...4 TVs for your sports viewing pleasure...friendly atmosphere and a guy named Steve rocking the jukebox...The COLDEST beer in town...I SWEAR....Pizzas, fried and grilled appetizer food and just a good time ! A Juke Box that boast over half a million songs...INCREDIBLE...I actually had to try it out...it has just about something by every band you could think of...Definately recommend giving a look.

Out standing, we were visiting Portland From Charleston and had Lunch at the Dry Dock. Everything we had was perfect, The service was fast and very good, sitting on the deck the second time we ate there was even better. You can see lobster boat and enjoy the sun. They have an Bloody Mary that is exceptional.

I went to Benkay for the first time and I had their Shrimp tempura roll and their spicy scallop roll. They were both very good. The both have just enough spice to them but are not to hot. I will be going back often to try other things on the menu. Until next time...

chicken sandwich is great and served on garlic bread yum! A wide variety of beers so you have to like at least one. Seats are the worst! Wood benches and wood chairs that are awful. I don't get it we usually don't stay for a second round because or back sides hurt and that has to cost them money. It the same seats at the other locations.

Fresh spring rolls like nowhere else, wonderful favorites (like Pad Thai), and the lightest and most delicious Green Curry dishes I've ever had (and I've tried green curry chicken in over 100 different restaurants in and outside New England)... plus the nicest owners imaginable... make this the restaurant I would visit daily if I lived nearer to Portland, and the one I would recommend, without reservation, to anyone looking for a new favorite place to dine.

I like the buffalo chicken fingers from here. They also have a melted chees sauce that the put on burgers and you can get with the fries thats real unique. Irecommend getting it on the side because it is messy and heavy. Parking is awful we go elsewhere sometimesbecause parking is so bad.

The Porthole Restaurant for me goes back to the mid 1980's. I used to work for a music/entertainment magazine in Portland and we used to go to the Porthole for lunch on Friday's for the Friday "All You Can Eat" Fish Fry. The Fish was always just fresh off the boat and really fantastic. the cost was nothing compared to the quality. In 2002, I was back in Maine from DC and took my wife on a Friday for the Fish fry and it was still there, the "All You Can Eat" Friday Fish Fry! Again, just fantastic and even better with a cold beer. This place will always have a place in my heart and stomach. A great local spot.

Sapporo used to be my favorite sushi restaurant, but they are honestly going down hill for me. Sometimes, when I take a bite of their sushi, the rice is hard, almost seems like it's been sitting there for two days. Rock & Roll sushi here is cheap and affordable, but they don't have any "themes" going on anymore. They used to play Radiohead for one night and another band the next, but lately, it's just been like basketball games, etc. :( Advantage: If you want affordable sushi, Friday & Saturday nights after 10pm @ Sapporo's is the place to go. Starting @ $2.50 a roll! Can't beat that.
