City Description

Pine Prairie is a village in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,087 at the 2000 census. Pine Prairie is located at 30°46′55″N 92°25′15″W / 30.78194, -92.42083 (30.781882, -92.420852). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.5 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.74% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,087 people, 327 households, and 242 families residing in the village. The population density was 313.2/km² (813.9/mi²). There were 367 housing units at an average density of 105.7/km² (274.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 91.08% White, 7.36% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.37% Asian, and 1.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.84% of the population. There were 327 households out of which 45.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 19.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% were non-families. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
