City DescriptionNew Sarpy is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2000 census.
New Sarpy is located at 29°58′44″N 90°23′8″W / 29.97889, -90.38556 (29.978937, -90.385492).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.3 km²), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²) of it (17.16%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,568 people, 531 households, and 395 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 931.3 people per square mile (360.4/km²). There were 580 housing units at an average density of 344.5/sq mi (133.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 46.62% White, 51.59% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.26% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.72% of the population.
There were 531 households out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 20.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.6% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals ...
