City DescriptionMarrero is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. Marrero is on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, within the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 36,165 at the 2000 census.
Marrero is located at 29°53′10″N 90°6′36″W / 29.88611, -90.11 (29.886017, -90.109930).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.6 square miles (22.2 km²), of which, 8.1 square miles (20.8 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) of it (5.96%) is water..
As of the census of 2000, there were 36,165 people, 12,432 households, and 9,336 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 4,493.3 people per square mile (1,734.6/km²). There were 13,046 housing units at an average density of 1,620.9/sq mi (625.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 47.48% White, 47.69% African American, 0.39% Native American, 2.46% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.12% of the population.
