City DescriptionLockport is a town on Bayou Lafourche in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,624 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Houma–Bayou Cane–Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Lockport is located at 29°38′33″N 90°32′24″W / 29.6425, -90.54 (29.642584, -90.539895).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.7 km²), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.6 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (3.12%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,624 people, 1,009 households, and 724 families residing in the town. The population density was 4,221.0 people per square mile (1,634.1/km²). There were 1,063 housing units at an average density of 1,709.9/sq mi (662.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.73% White, 1.03% African American, 1.64% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.18% of the population.
