City Description

Livonia (pronounced Le Vone ya) is a town in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,339 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is home to Livonia High School. The town's zip code is 70755. Its main police agency is the Livonia Police Department. Livonia is located at 30°33′37″N 91°33′1″W / 30.56028, -91.55028 (30.560159, -91.550165). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,339 people, 502 households, and 380 families residing in the town. The population density was 741.3 people per square mile (285.6/km²). There were 545 housing units at an average density of 301.7/sq mi (116.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 91.04% White, 8.51% African American, 0.15% Asian, and 0.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.60% of the population. There were 502 households out of which 40.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.9% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.3% were non-families.
