City Description

French Settlement (historically French: La Côte-Française) is a village in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 945 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. French Settlement is located at 30°18′16″N 90°47′56″W / 30.30444, -90.79889 (30.304395, -90.798881). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.37% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 945 people, 359 households, and 276 families residing in the village. The population density was 134.6/km² (349.0/mi²). There were 436 housing units at an average density of 62.1/km² (161.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.26% White, 0.21% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.90% of the population. There were 359 households out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.2% were married couples living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone living
