City DescriptionDelta is a village in Madison Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 239 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tallulah Micropolitan Statistical Area.
As the birthplace of Madam C.J. Walker, the first woman to become a millionaire by her own business achievements, it has been included as one of 26 featured sites on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail.
Delta is located at 32°19′17″N 90°56′12″W / 32.32139, -90.93667 (32.321342, -90.936544).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²). 7.7 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (4.81%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 239 people, 101 households, and 62 families residing in the village. The population density was 31.0/km² (80.2/mi²). There were 111 housing units at an average density of 14.4/km² (37.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.98% White, 2.51% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.42% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.35% of the population.
