City DescriptionCarlyss is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,049 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Carlyss is located at 30°11′34″N 93°22′27″W / 30.19278, -93.37417 (30.192655, -93.374104).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.0 square miles (31.0 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,049 people, 1,473 households, and 1,132 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 338.0 people per square mile (130.5/km²). There were 1,668 housing units at an average density of 139.2/sq mi (53.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.46% White, 0.84% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.19% of the population.
