City DescriptionBridge City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 8,323 at the 2000 census. It was established in the 1930s during the construction of the Huey P. Long Bridge over the Mississippi River. The town is located on the West Bank of the river. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Bridge City is located at 29°55′26″N 90°9′58″W / 29.92389, -90.16611 (29.923956, -90.166030).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.3 square miles (13.6 km²), of which, 4.4 square miles (11.3 km²) of it is land and 0.9 square miles (2.3 km²) of it (16.73%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,323 people, 2,834 households, and 2,122 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,903.8 people per square mile (735.4/km²). There were 3,067 housing units at an average density of 701.6/sq mi (271.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 45.08% White, 47.55% African American, 0.76% Native American, 3.94% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.27% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races.
