City DescriptionWinchester is a city in and the county seat of Clark County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 16,724 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Winchester is located at 37°59′41″N 84°11′3″W / 37.99472, -84.18417 (37.994774, -84.184289). There is 3 main high ways in the county. 1958 (Bypass Rd.) is an outer loop of the town. 627(Boonesborough Rd.) is connected to downtown. This road also leads to Richmond although I-75 does run on the southern part of the county. US 60 (Winchester-Lexington Rd.)runs right through the middle of down town Winchester. It also home to the Mountain Parkway and I-64.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.7 square miles (19.9 km²).Of this, 7.6 square miles (19.8 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.52%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 16,724 people, 6,907 households, and 4,620 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,187.6 people per square mile (845.2/km²).
