    City Description

    Wilmore is a city in Jessamine County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 5,905 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wilmore has two institutions of higher learning: Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary. While both are named after Francis Asbury, they are separate institutions. Given the size of the student bodies relative to the size of Wilmore, they have a significant role in the town. Wilmore also is home to an award-winning water treatment facility. Wilmore is home to the Ichthus Festival which is a gathering of Christian musical artists and speakers. Ichthus is an annual event usually occurring in April of each year. In 2005 Ichthus decided to reschedule future festivals, owing to the uncertainty of weather conditions in the third weekend of April. From 2006 onwards, the festival has been held in June. Also despite its small size, Wilmore plays host to the Highbridge Film Festival. Established in 2005 (then the Asbury College Film Festival), this has been the primary showcase for student films produced by Asbury College's Media Communications students, but all entries are welcomed.
