City DescriptionStanton is a city in and the county seat of Powell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,029 at the 2000 census.
Stanton is the birthplace of Hall of Fame thoroughbred horse trainer Woody Stephens.
Stanton is located at 37°50′51″N 83°51′33″W / 37.8475, -83.85917 (37.847610, -83.859250).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.1 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,029 people, 1,222.5 households, and 856.6758 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,538.0 people per square mile (593.7/km²). There were 1,340 housing units at an average density of 680.4/sq mi (262.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.01% White, 0.43% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.03% Asian, 0.03% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.
There were 1,222 households out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% were married couples living together, 16.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals ...
