Robards is located at 37°40′29″N 87°32′35″W / 37.67472, -87.54306 (37.674669, -87.542918).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 564 people, 214 households, and 172 families residing in the city. The population density was 183.5 people per square mile (70.9/km²). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 73.5/sq mi (28.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.87% White, 1.42% Black or African American, 0.53% Native American, and 0.18% from two or more races.
There were 214 households out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.2% were non-families. 17.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 2.97.
