City DescriptionRaceland is a city in Greenup County, Kentucky, in the Ohio River valley. The population was 2,355 at the 2000 census.
Raceland is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.
Raceland is located at 38°32′13″N 82°43′52″W / 38.53694, -82.73111 (38.537003, -82.731137).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²), all of it land. On a side note Raceland, Kentucky is also home of the Raceland Car Shops, when built was one of the largest rail car repair shops in the US for several years ( adjacent to CSX's Russell Yard), which operated under C&O, then CSX, and currently under Progress Rail Services. It was built in the 1920's in a remarkably short amount of time, just under 2 years.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,355 people, 935 households, and 707 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,068.3 people per square mile (413.3/km²).
